The importance and the benefits of having a bulletproof coffee daily. 

What is bulletproof coffee?

Bulletproof coffee is a high calorie caffeinated drink designed to kick start your day. The drink consists of fat, for example cream or butter, and coffee. Dave Asprey started the bulletproof coffee after travelling to Tibet and tasting the Yak-butter tea drinks. Following this, he started experimenting with butter in his coffee to make the perfect drink! Asprey has claimed that when used in combination with other "health hacks", the coffee helped to boost his IQ score by more than 20 points.

Importance of bulletproof coffee whilst following a ketogenic diet.

Start your day with a bulletproof coffee and receive an energy burst. When pairing coffee with fat, the rate at which your body processes caffeine is slower and therefore its effects are prolonged. This means you will get a more sustained energy release rather than a rapid spike. The additional fat you will be adding into your coffee will also help you feel fuller for longer, giving you that extra boost throughout the day. Another benefit of adding fat into your daily coffee, is that it gives your body the opportunity to produce more ketones. 

How to make the original bulletproof coffee?

Dave Aspreys original bulletproof coffee consisted of: 

Your brewed coffee, 1-2 tablespoons of MCT oil and 1-2 tablespoons of ghee or butter. Mix it all together and BHAM! Bulletproof! 

This of course is just a base recipe for your bulletproof coffee and can be adapted to your taste buds and also to your requirements. For example, for a more protein filled coffee, add 2 egg yolks and 1-2 tablespoons of collagen, or for a creamier coffee add some heavy cream in! For a slightly sweeter tasting coffee, add in some liquid stevia drops and for anything in between, mix it up and make it your own!
